Introducing Hollex CIZ 142 PEM & Integrated Spark-Ablated MEAs

At TailorMem, our mission is to drive the green transition through advanced, fluorine-free membrane technology. Today, we are excited to announce two major additions to our product portfolio: our new Hollex CIZ 142 Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM/CEM) and fully integrated Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) manufactured using single-step spark ablation technology.

Together, these innovations deliver a complete, sustainable, and highly customizable electrochemical stack component system— straight from a single European source.

1. TailorMem Hollex CIZ 142: Next-Gen PFAS-Free PEM Technology (available from Q4 2026)

Joining our established AEM lineup, the newly released Hollex CIZ 142 is a hydrocarbon-based cation exchange membrane designed specifically for PEM water electrolysis and fuel cells.

Built around a main polymer chain free of oxygen or other heteroatoms, Hollex CIZ 142 utilizes sulfonic ion-exchange groups to deliver exceptional proton conductivity alongside outstanding chemical stability.

Key Highlights

  • 100% PFAS-Free & Fluorine-Free: Future-proof chemistry aligned with upcoming EU environmental regulations.
  • Superior Hydrocarbon Performance: Exceptional chemical stability and high ionic conductivity compared to conventional hydrocarbon membranes.
  • Versatile Formats: Standard supply in 300 mm × 1500 mm sheets (with options up to 800 mm width and custom lengths).

2. Integrated MEAs: Precision Catalyst Deposition via Spark Ablation

To complement our core membrane development, TailorMem now offers fully integrated Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) produced via an innovative, solvent-free spark ablation process.

By using a pulsed high-voltage discharge to generate platinum nanoparticles directly onto the gas diffusion layer (GDL), we eliminate the need for traditional catalyst inks, solvents, or binders. The resulting catalyst-coated GDLs are hot-pressed directly onto our Hollex membranes to form a finished, binder-free MEA.

Why Spark-Ablated MEAs Change the Game

  • Ultra-Low Platinum Loadings: Achieves single-cell fuel cell performance exceeding commercial platinum-black electrodes at Pt loadings below 0.1 mg cm⁻².
  • Zero Ionomer in Catalyst Layer: Maximizes catalyst utilization and minimizes material waste.
  • Unmatched Flexibility: Custom active areas up to 100 cm², arbitrary shapes beyond standard rectangles, and capability for custom Pt-alloy compositions.
  • Multi-Application Readiness: Ideal for fuel cells, PEM/AEM water electrolysis, electrochemical hydrogen compression, and CO₂ electrolysis.
